A social match on 28th July

hpcWe’ve agreed with Heckmondwike Petanque Club to play a friendly at Glen Road on this date. We’re hoping for 3 rounds of 6 games starting about 11am. They’re a friendly lot in general but they have some good players. There will be a notice on the noticeboard and in the clubhouse soon.

We can have 12 to 18 players on the day.  Let Paul, Paul or Neill know you’d like to play. There will be a return match at Heckmondwike  in August

England 13 – 6 La France

Renaudo_player6By a long way the best game of the afternoon at Brasserie Blanc. Out of the blue a group of french people showed an interest and two Leeds Petanque Club members, Paul & Richard, took on the challenge. Crowds gathered sensing something big was happening and a fascinating match ensued. Top quality play with brilliant shooting. Unfortunately France lost.

Mais demain?? On vous attend Nicolas et Alexei. La revanche. Et peut etre la belle…

Waterfront Festival

bblogowhitesmallThe Leeds Waterfront Festival takes place this weekend – Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th of June.  As last year we will be playing outside Brasserie Blanc on both the Saturday and Sunday.

The festival runs from 12 noon to 6pm on the Saturday and Sunday.  During those times we’ll be having a few social games and encouraging others to have a go at Petanque.  If you know anyone who fancies trying the sport out invite them to come along and have a go!  You can find Brasserie Blanc by clicking the Brasserie Blanc logo above to take you to their page (select Map from there to open google maps).

Volunteers will be needed on both days to play and help set up the terrain.  A team will be assembling at 10:30am on the Saturday morning to prepare the terrain.  We’ll also need some hands at the end of each day to help clear away.  If you can help, and haven’t already indicated so, please get in touch with Paul the club chairman (email on club contacts page).

Hope to see you all there and the weather forecast looks much better this year!

Please note there will be no play at Glen Road on Sunday the 30th of June.  The usual Sunday play will be at Brasserie Blanc.

The Club Pairs Champions for 2013 are…

Paul M and Richard.

Although it was a mixture of sun and rain there were 12 players who played 3 rounds and after all the scores were added up (and checked) Sam & Malcolm (the runners up) had also won all three games but Paul & Richard however had +25 points difference as opposed to +20. The winners took away a massive tray of Ferrerro Rocher chocolates and a bottle of Wine Society Cotes de Bordeaux claret.

Triples Competition a month from today…

Club Pairs Sunday 16th June

aces This sunday starting at 11am will be the Club Pairs competition. 3 rounds with the same person but this person can be any club member.

Weather looks set fair. Hopefully we’ll have a good turnout. If you don’t have a partner you can find one on the day. (Club secretary looking for a partner…).

Small prize for winners plus title of Club Pairs Champions.

Leeds Petanque Club Sponsorship

bblogowhitesmallOur chairman and treasurer, Paul and Roy, have been working hard over the last few weeks and months to secure some sponsorship for the club.

Their efforts have been successful and it can now be announced that the club has been given some sponsorship money by Brasserie Blanc Leeds (Click the above logo to go to the Brasserie Blanc Leeds website).  We will now be getting some new club shirts with the Brasserie Blanc logo on so expect someone coming round with an order list soon.

You can also join us at Brasserie Blanc at the end of this month when we will be there as part of the Leeds Waterfront Festival.  Many of you will remember this from last year.  Let’s hope this years is as much success, but a little drier!  More details will be posted closer to the time.

Great win for Leeds in York League

Well done to the team who had a great win in the York League last Thursday evening.  Playing away at Wetherby, who have won the league the last few years, the team managed a 3-1 win on the evening and increased their points difference over the other teams at the top.

Congratulations to Paul, Malcolm, Roy, Sam, Richard B and Neill who played that night.  Still some tough games to go so keep up the hard work!
