Local Derby Day

matchThe most we’d ever had on our new terrain. 14 from Leeds and 17 from Heckmondwike Petanque club played three rounds of 6 games and when it had all been added up the result was a win for Leeds by 10 games to 8. Mostly sunny but the last couple of games finished in the rain. Bearing in mind that 3 games finished 13-12 it could have gone either way. Well played to members Paul, Paul, Pat, Neil, Robin, Carol, Liz, Gordon, Gavin, Sam, Rosanna, Richard M, Jim, Simon, Steve and from Heckmondwike Amy, Janet, Clive, Chris, Denise, Carol, Christine, Ken, Roy, Alan, Pam, Isobel, Ken, Doreen, Harold, Roger & Jane.

Looking forward to the return in the next month or so.

Melee result

meljul15 people turned up and most of them played all day. After 5 rounds just 2 players had won all 5 games. Sam was first by just one point from Posy. Gordon beat Richard B for 3rd by a few points as both of them had won 4 out of 5 games.

Most people agreed it was good day out and if enough people reply to this post we might have another event in August. The picture shows the terrain ready for play.

Triples Champions are…

Rosanna, Gavin, Gordon (& Sally). Because of numbers there was some substitutions during the morning but this team won all their 3 games and are worthy champions. Runners up were Richard M, Mike and Robin. Welcome to new member Steve who  arrived out of the blue. Full results available if you want. Next event of note at Glen Road is the all day melee on Thursday 25th.

Triples this Sunday & new Results page.

Triples-WinnersThis Sunday is the Club Triples competition. Ideally we’d like 12 or 18 players to make the maths easier but we hope to play 3 games and crown some champions. You can make up a team or join one on the day. Weather looks promising. Be there early to draw teams and start at 11am.

The blog also has a new page where we list results. Have a look.

Midsummer Melee

Petanque-MeleeAs well as tonight (Tuesday 2nd July, 3 games from 1845) we’ll be holding an all day event on Thursday 25th July.  Starting at 10-30 there will be the opportunity to play 5 games in a day.

You’ll need to bring a packed lunch but there will be unlimited Tea & Coffee and free parking.

Entry fee is £1 and all money will be returned to the top ranking players at the end of the day. There’s a random draw each round for partners and we can accommodate 24 players as pairs and a few more with a few triples. No need to pre register – just turn up on the day.

Festival feedback

UntitledWhat a great weekend, almost sunny and a lot of interest from the Festival goers.
We played a couple of games against French teams, with honours even, and gave a large number of people a taste of the game, hopefully we will see some of them up at Glen Road in the next few weeks.

A big thank you to all club members who came down over the weekend, all 20 of you! A really impressive turnout and a big thank you to Brasserie Blanc for hosting the weekend and all their help and support.
We have distributed the new club polo shirts to all those who attended and will be sorting the last few when we see you up at the club. We will also be arranging the sale of the smart new zip up sweat shirts in the next week or so start saving so you can keep warm in the coming months.

We will be updating the website with pictures of the weekend and I understand there is even a video or two. So keep an eye out and if you havent signed up for the blog please do so as it is a good way to keep updated as to whats happening.

Thanks again to you all.
