One of our members is doing something really special and needs some support – please read the following message from Jo:
I am fundraising for the charity Cricket Without Boundaries by swimming the distance of the channel over two weeks in September and wondered if any of you would be interested in sponsoring me for this challenge. Cricket Without Boundaries is a cricket development and AIDS awareness charity that brings communities together through sport and promotes the awareness and treatment of HIV / AIDS.
Last year I volunteered for Cricket Without Boundaries for the first time, and in October I'll be doing it again, this time in Uganda and Rwanda. On my last trip we coached 3500 children, giving them a fun introduction to cricket but most importantly raising awareness of HIV/AIDS and explaining the importance of testing and treatment. We also trained 100 teachers to be coaches so that they can continue using sport to educate even more kids in the future.
The charity is run completely on donations, generated by volunteers like me doing crazy activities, and so over 14 days in September, I will be swimming the distance of the English Channel which is 34km, 21 miles or 1360 lengths of your average pool! If you would like to sponsor me, please visit my fundraising page: http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/JoDean1
Or if you'd rather come and support, you can help count my lengths or make me a bacon butty when (if) I make it!
